Christmas is my favorite time of year. TJ makes fun of me because no matter what is going on, he can make me smile just by putting Christmas music on. My love of Christmas stems from my childhood. My mom struggled financially when we were children, yet always seemed to make Christmas so magical. Now it is my turn to do the same for my children. I have started a ridiculous amount of Christmas traditions with them. Every year we go to breakfast and get our tree on the day before Thanksgiving, we make Christmas cookies, have a pajama party with the cousins, make hot cocoa and drive around to see lights, make gingerbread houses, open a present on Christmas Eve that is always a family game.. and the list goes on... TJ is a good sport. He knows my heart and lets me go a little crazy this time of year.
We even named our sweet Clara after my love of Christmas.. Clara Noel. She has definitely taken the right spirit to go with her name. Although, she may just love Christmas because of the absurd amount of sweet treats. We try to limit treats in our house as much as possible, but Clara was born with an appetite. I remember when she was a baby she would scream for more food. Three baby food jars later, and she was still upset. Isn't it crazy that children are born with specific traits like that? Anyway..back to topic..Clara was over the moon with the gingerbread house project. Let's just say that I cannot believe that she did not get sick. She ate more than she put on the house. Every time I would turn around she would have her hands over her mouth because she was trying to hide that her mouth was stuffed full. If you notice in one of the above pictures, her gingerbread man is missing an arm!
It is so nice to be able to spend extra time with the family during the holidays. It is also very important that we take our kids beyond the traditions, and teach them the real meaning of Christmas. I think Clara has gotten used to my questions...She answers everything with the same enthusiastic answer, "GOD!" Who loves you with no end? "God!" Why do we celebrate Christmas? "God!" Who made you? "God!" Who made cookies? "God!!!" ...She gets the basic concept :)
