Life has changed dramatically for me since returning home to Massillon in June. I don't have my own kids...so in Columbus, I obviously lived a childless life. Yes, I was still around kids occasionally.. but living with them, and helping to care for them.. is a whole new world (cue Aladdin soundtrack).
It occurred to me today how much my 'Things I Like' list has altered.
Columbus: I liked buying new clothes. Massillon: I love a load of laundry that only consists of towels. It is much easier to fold towels than tons of socks and tiny kid clothes.
Columbus: I loved going out to dinner. Massillon: I love when the dishes in the sink don't have food on them.
Columbus: I liked looking for decorating ideas for my apartment. Massillon: I love art projects that don't have glitter..that stuff never goes away.
Columbus: I loved fancy clothes. Massillon: I love clothes that can be considered daytime clothes but are comfortable enough to sleep in.. and I don't care if they get ruined.. because they will get ruined.
Columbus: I loved wine that had an easy open screw top. Massillon: I love toys with very few pieces.
Columbus: I loved watching Netflix and having absolutely nothing to do.. watching so much Netflix on a day off that I was asked more than once by Netflix 'Are you still watching?' which always made me feel like.. sheesh even Netflix thinks I'm lazy today. But clicked 'yes' anyway. Massillon: I still love that. It is just a very rare occasion that it's possible.
Columbus: I loved boxing at the gym 4-5 days a week. Massillon: I love considering Cadence and Clara medicine balls, and counting that as a workout.
I am still me. I still love a lot of the same things. I have just never been more aware of how much life will change with a family. I can comfortably say that I will be ready when I have my own kids someday. I count that as a blessing.
Merry Christmas, everyone! ..and kudos to every parent in the world.. it is not easy.
